Optical transport for metro access through ultra-long haul

High-capacity WDM transport hardware, software, and management solutions built to carry your most demanding traffic.
THE CHALLENGE

Optimized for any environment

Whether you’re building out a metro ring, connecting data centers at varying distances, or running a national backbone, Ekinops optical networking platforms include both a compact modular chassis sized for data center and edge deployments and telco standard systems built for central office transport.  Both platforms being managed through a single software suite for supervision, configuration, and automation simplifies operations, minimizes training requirements and reduces errors.

FAQ

Find your answer to common questions on our Optical Networking products.

Though they both provide Layer 1 WDM transport, the two hardware platforms are designed for different operating environments: the Telco Standard Platform is built for carrier-class, high-capacity telecom office deployments, while the Compact Modular Platform is a lower-profile chassis designed for data center and edge locations. Interoperable at the optical level, both Compact Modular and Telco Standard systems can be deployed together on the same network and even on the same link.  Software & Management isn’t a separate hardware choice: it’s the supervision and automation suite that runs across both platforms, so you manage your entire optical network the same way regardless of which chassis you deploy.

Optical Networking covers the physical transport layer: the fiber-based links carrying traffic between your sites or facilities. It also provides bulk Layer 1 encryption that secures all the traffic on the link at the physical layer where it is most efficient.  If you also need to connect and manage traffic at individual branches or offices, that’s covered by our Enterprise Networking products. If you need to secure users, traffic, or remote access, that’s covered by our Cybersecurity products. Many operators and large enterprises deploy Optical Networking alongside Enterprise Networking, since the two typically sit on the same physical infrastructure.

Yes. Both platforms support Alien Wavelength, injecting new coherent channels directly onto your existing fiber, or even a third-party line system, so you can add capacity without digging new fiber or replacing infrastructure that’s already been deployed.  Conversely, Ekinops line systems can also support alien wavelengths such as router-based pluggable optics with full monitoring and alarm capability.

Both. The same coherent optics and card architecture used for terrestrial metro and long-haul networks also support submarine links so a network built for one distance class can extend into another using the same platform family.
